Plaza to honor ISU’s historically Black fraternities and sororities to break ground

Taking a team-based approach to anti-racism work

Using NCORE-ISCORE's professional development framework, Women in Science and Engineering created an officewide anti-racism plan. ISU Police Chief leads the way for innovative law enforcement reform

At many schools, campus police departments and diversity offices operate as separate entities, rarely interacting. At Iowa State, however, the chief of police checks in with the Office of the Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion twice each week. Statement of care for ISU community following attacks on Asians and Asian Americans

March 18, 2021: President Wendy Wintersteen and Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Reg Chhen Stewart sent a campus message condemning acts of violence, xenophobia, and bigotry targeting Asian and Asian Americans and offering support, care, and resources for the ISU Community. 

College of Engineering recognized for diversity and inclusive excellence

Feb. 12, 2021: The College of Engineering has received the highest honor possible from the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) for its commitment to diversity and places the college among the nation’s leaders in inclusive excellence. 

2021 ISCORE registration opens

Feb. 1, 2021: The Thomas L. Hill Iowa State Conference on Race and Ethnicity (ISCORE) is the university’s flagship program designed to provide an ongoing platform of sharing and applying new knowledge on issues of race and ethnicity. Registration is now open for the virtual conference, March 4-5, free for all students, faculty, and staff, and a March 3 virtual pre-conference for faculty and staff. 

Four executive orders impacting the Iowa State Community 

Jan. 25, 2021: In a campus-wide memo, the Offices of University Counsel and the Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion outlined four Executive Orders: Advancing Racial Equity; Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation; Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA); and Lifting of Travel Restrictions, and the key takeaways for the Iowa State community. 

Update on Executive Order on Combating Race and Sex Stereotyping

Jan. 11, 2021: Following the nationwide preliminary injunction, the US Department of Labor, OFCCP issued guidance that it will stop investigating any agency or contractor suspected of violating executive order 13950 (the EO regarding federal contractors DEI education programs) and will take no enforcement action.

Jan. 5, 2021: The Office of the University Counsel informed campus about the nationwide preliminary injunction stopping the enforcement of President Trump’s Executive Order 13950, which according to the Order seeks “to combat race and sex stereotyping” in workplace trainings provided by federal government contractors and recipients of federal grants.
